05.1 Visual Design For Print and Screen: Design Systems Part 2

Last week, the feedback that I got on my original sketches/ideas were very constructive and positive. In my desk crit, I was encouraged to work more purposefully with grids this week. I took that advice into this week as I worked more closely with my poster and article spread design.

This week, I worked more on refining and implementing my poster idea in Illustrator. I worked with a grid, both with grid lines and a manufactured grid. The grid allowed me to align the text on the poster, and clean up the overall appearance of the elements.

Future work for my poster will include finalizing a subtitle phrase, as well as font families for the headings and body text. I think that I have settled on an accent color for the design system, but I will ask for feedback on that as well. I hope to get some feedback on these elements this week from the class and professor.

This week I also worked on the article spread design. I drew a lot of inspiration from article spreads I found on Behance and Pinterest (inspiration images linked above). I loved the concept of having my essay text creating a sort of ascending/reaching shape, in correspondence with the arm reaching image that will be used on the poster. I attempted to recreate this feel on the spread, and I hope to get some feedback about how to tie in the title text more seamlessly with this design decision.

Next week, I look forward to working more with the article spread and the website design. I will take the feedback I receive this week to refine the parts of the assignment that I have already started, and hopefully will also get some inspiration for the website design portion of this assignment. I also hope to finalize the poster design based on class/desk crits.
